Why Do You Do This?

People ask me this a lot. Why do you post all your sessions online? Who cares about your training? Well, turns out about 2,600 of you do, so far.

It's not about ego

I won't pretend there's zero ego in it, and I'm not doing it for free sunglasses either. But mostly it's the same reason I wave to runners I've never met, the same reason I end up chatting to strangers at the pool, the same reason I'll ask another athlete what they're training for. I genuinely love this stuff.

I get asked a lot about the training I'm doing, so I try to give people tips, advice, encouragement where I can. If posting myself running, riding, swimming, or messing around in the gym gets someone else out the door to do the same, that's the actual point.

Social media gets a bad reputation sometimes, and fair enough. But I've met people through it I'd never have met otherwise. Trained with people in places I'd never have visited. Learnt from athletes miles better than me. That's community, not followers.

So if you're on the fence about signing up for a race, or nervous about your first run, that's genuinely why I'm telling you all this. Reach out, ask me anything. If I can do it, anyone can — and I mean that.
