Closing The Gap: Swim

The Kona Gap · July 28, 2026

Swim was one of the areas we flagged as needing the most work in The Kona Gap. Here's where that's actually got to.

Andy and I sat down and went through the footage properly this week — worth seeing what's actually changed, not just how it feels.

More volume, more consistency

Over the last couple of months the swim's had more volume and more consistency than it's had in a long time. Faster arm cadence work, longer swims, and a proper race pace progression — building from 50s, up to 75s, now at 100s, with barely any rest between.

I can hold longer reps now without fatiguing or dropping pace. Swims up to 4K feel easy compared to a few weeks ago, the time just flies now. Stroke rate's increased, catch drills are actually working, and pre-swim activations have helped my bad shoulder. Even my breathing feels more comfortable in the water.

Seven weeks to go. The gap's closing.
