People usually ask about the hardest sessions on the plan. I get it, but that's not the same question as which ones I actually look forward to. So here are my five favourites, and it turns out none of them made the list because they're brutal.
My top 5 sessions
#5 is an easy LT1 run with strides at the end — ninety-five percent of it is relaxed, and then I get a few minutes to remind my legs what fast actually feels like.
#4 is any open water swim. I don't even really care about the pace on those, it's just the most peaceful place I go all week.
#3 is VO2 swim sessions, which are miserable in the moment but genuinely satisfying watching the intervals get quicker over weeks.
#2 is a long outdoor ride into a brick run — hours on the bike, straight off into running, and for a few minutes it actually feels like race day.
#1 is twenty VO2 max intervals on the bike. Forty seconds on, forty off. It absolutely empties me, but there's a long easy ride home afterwards that genuinely feels earned.
That's my list. Endurance, speed, or are you one of those people who secretly loves hill repeats? What's yours?
